A beacon of light

Manipuri Theatre's foundation was laid in 1996 in a small village called "Ghuramara", in Moulvibazar division with a hope and dream of reaching people with Manipuri drama and theatrics. But with time it had reached audiences in the international level due to its sheer brilliance and quality.

Personally, my first memory of Manipuri Theatre goes back in 2011-12 when I first witnessed the magic of theatre. Compelling stories, outstanding acting performances and soulful music took my breath away. From that first show I fell in love with Manipuri Theatre.
Then years passed by, I watched few more dramas and every time it was a better experience than the previous one. My personal favorites has to be , "Ingal Adhaar Pala" , "Kahe Birangana" and "Srikrishna Kirtan".

One thing what I love about Manipuri Theatre the most is the portrayal of Bishnupriya Manipuri culture, tradition, languages and music. An effortless culmination of all the elements with heartwarming stories and acting performances. Manipuri Theatre has been inspirations for many in the community and I must say they are the pioneer of the art in our community from where many brilliant minds have come out who are serving the community.

Two days ago I again went to watch their recent drama, "Dhojo Mestorir Moron". A drama on the ever-existing nature of human life. How a typical life of an ordinary person is lived where he experience slove, comfort, happiness and try to build a life around his family accumulating everything he can; however eventually he can not escape the truth of life. He has to leave behind everything dear to him, his wife, family, belongings , house, everything.

The drama hits deep in the human psyche. It depicts the value of time and people around you but at the same time it teaches you accept the change and whispers in your ears that “Change is the only constant in the ephemeral world”. At the end , Dhojo mestori is a sheer metaphor, we all are him; traveller of space and time in this in-transient reality for a while before we leave! I am honored and blessed for the opportunity for which I am grateful to Manipuri Theatre. Some of the photographs have already become so dear to me, I can’t explain!
